How To Build An Outdoor Kitchen Island With a Construction Adhesive

When building an outdoor kitchen island, concrete or stone is a popular choice, but it’s not necessary. You can use wood as an alternative to build a kitchen island, when using a construction adhesive. Even though wood is lighter, there are steps you can take to help make a wooden frame almost as sturdy as traditional construction at a fraction of the cost and hassle.

Here’s how:

Step 1.

Check the weather. Part of what makes outdoor building challenging is weather change because it can cause building materials to expand and contract. Construction adhesives are flexible enough to move with building materials and maintain a tight bond in almost any type of weather.

Step 2.

Get all of your materials and measurements ready for your project. Make sure your measurements are correct and surfaces are prepared.

Step 3.

For frame assembly, you can use physical fasteners.

Step 4.

Cut and dry fit all pieces prior to applying your adhesive.

Step 5.

Run a 1/4-inch continuous line (bead) on the framework and position pieces into place. If able, make sure to supplement with screws for optimal strength.
