How To Install Paneling and Tileboard With Construction Adhesives

Tileboard and decorative panels (paneling) are for more than just bathrooms. With a wide variety of designs and patterns available, homeowners are choosing accents to transform rooms throughout their homes.

Decorative paneling and tile boards can accent a space in your home, and can easily be installed with a construction adhesive. To get the job done, we recommend using LIQUID NAILS® Heavy Duty Construction Adhesive (LN-903)

Decorative Panel Installation:

Step 1.

Make sure the walls are clean, dry and free of loose paint*, plaster or other materials.

Step 2.

Lightly sand* any glossy-painted walls or ceramic tile, then wipe them clean with a damp rag.

*WARNING! If you scrape, sand or remove old paint, you may release lead dust. LEAD IS TOXIC. Contact the National Lead Information Hotline at 1-800-424-LEAD, or log on to www.epa.gov/lead.

Step 3.

Apply a 1/4-inch continuous line (bead) of Liquid Nails Heavy Duty Construction Adhesive every 10 to 12 inches across the back of the panel. Keep about one inch from the edges.

Step 4.

Press the panel into place, and immediately pull it back away from the wall.

Step 5

After 1 to 3 minutes, press the panel back into place, and secure with desired fasteners as needed.

Step 3.

Apply Liquid Nails Heavy Duty Construction Adhesive (Trowel Grade) over the entire back of the panel. Using a 1/8-inch v-notched trowel, spread the wall adhesive out to the edges and corners of the panel.

Step 4.

Wait about five minutes (no more than 15) and then press the panel into place using a panel roller so that good contact is made between the construction adhesive and the wall.

Step 5.

Check and re-press each panel, especially the edges, every 15 minutes for the first hour.

Step 6.

Allow the construction adhesive to dry for 24 to 48 hours.

Notes:

For bathrooms, caulk every seam with 100% pure silicone sealant. We recommend using LIQUID NAILS® Silicone Premium Universal Sealant (LS-205). Do not use a siliconized acrylic latex caulk. Also caulk around all fixtures. If moldings are used, apply a 1/4-inch continuous line of sealant inside the molding channel and fit the molding onto the panel.

Ceiling Panels Installation:

Step 1.

Make sure the existing ceiling is structurally sound, clean and dry before installation. Plaster, cement or mortar must be fully cured before wall adhesive is applied.

Step 2.

Apply 1/4-inch continuous lines (bead) of adhesive every 3 to 4 inches across the back of your panel. This will ensure at least 60 percent of the back of each panel is covered. Press and hold each panel in place for 5 to 10 seconds and then let go.

Step 3.

Secure panels as directed using recommended fasteners.
